Katie & Jess at Lodge Farm Weddings

I arrived at the Lodge Farm Weddings venue on a beautiful crisp autumnal day for Jess and Katie’s nuptials. The light? Juicy, glowing, perfection. The couple? Only the best pair of women you could ask for - so fun and full of love - all they wanted was to have a good time with their loved ones. The venue? In a word, stunning. Lodge Farm Weddings has it all - a wonderful sense of history from the brick buildings, modern yet sympathetic additions in natural, clean wood, and surrounded by the rolling farmland of God’s own country (that’s Yorkshire, for the uninitiated!).
Lodge Farm is all about the details - their iconic diamond brick cutout motif created a unique backdrop for our beautiful brides to stand in front of, and the staff could not have been more helpful and friendly - exactly what you need when you’re full of nerves before you say “I do”. See this blog they've done about budgeting for your wedding as a testament to their helpfulness!
Natural light was never in short supply here, and as the venue has a variety of buildings and quiet courtyards, plus is right in the middle of acres of farmland, we were spoilt for choice when it came to places to create magical photos.
This played right into my hands as a documentary-style photographer. Every time I turned around, there was a beautiful moment happening in a dreamy setting - couldn’t get a bad picture if I tried.
Jess and Katie and their families were wonderful to work for - they were full of fun and they were clearly besotted with one another. It was important to capture loving moments with their family members especially, as it was clear they were all really tight-knit.
You may have guessed this was a lesbian wedding, and I loved the mix of traditional and non-traditional elements. Jess went for a masc look in a super sharp suit, while Katie shone in a floor length lace bridal gown. We had Katie’s fabulous mum walking her down the aisle, and we had Jess’s brother and nephew put in an excellent shift as best man and ring bearer.
Jess and Katie really went with the flow, which was why we got so many fantastic natural photos. They were keen to crack a joke, and tell their best pick up lines, making it easy to capture their playful vibe.
Some highlights from the day included the following, check the gallery at the bottom to see:
- Bride and bridesmen doing their best impression of bouncers - they had such a lovely connection.
- Hair and make up in the bridal suite for Katie and her girls, who did a wonderful job of glamming her up, keeping her calm, and making sure she walked out looking absolutely drop dead gorgeous.
- Bride Katie showing off her Wifey socks with a pint of Guiness in hand… legend.
- We did do some posing as I love getting a few arty shots you might want to get framed for your wall. After I took one and showed Jess, she almost cried (again).
- Party time! The “Love. Laugh. Lesbo” disco sticks really went down a treat with the kids, and the dancefloor was packed with revellers by the time I left!
The day was, as ever, full of fun and love. Chatting to the brides throughout the day, I felt like I’d known them forever by the end of the night, and my documentary style, with a sprinkle of portraiture, allows me to get those once-in-a-lifetime shots of couples looking their absolute best and most in love, while also leaving time and room for the real fun: the post-ceremony partying.
I work around the schedule, knowing where you need to be and when, so I don’t take you away from the moments that matter. My favourite photographs at the end of the day are always the ones you didn’t know I was taking!
If you’re planning your wedding at Lodge Farm Weddings, or anywhere else, and you’re after relaxed, documentary style photography with room for some fabulous portraits, I’d love to hear from you.
